At this stage of the competition White Knights A must be thinking that they already have one hand on the Dr Hanson Trophy. This week’s home match saw them notch up their second win against Morriston A (3-2) and sees them boost their lead over second placed Nidum to seven points. With only one match point dropped to date only a major disaster is likely to spoil their day.

At the other end of the table celebrations were already taking place when Briton Ferry All Blacks finally found a bit of form and defeated White Knights B by 3 boards to 2. This was their first gain of points in all their 10 matches, although it does not improve their position at the bottom of the table. They are still in the position of needing a run of good results against all the odds if they are to avoid relegation.

The first match after the Christmas break was in the first week of the New Year when second division De la Beche A played at home against BF Giants. The 4-1 victory for the Giants was somewhat flattering and was helped by a top board default from the home team. The following week featured the second inter club match between the Morriston C and D teams and there was no real surprise when, in spite of a draw between Dave Conway and Les Philpin, and a win by Steve Lockley over Tony Goodchild, the C team emerged the victors 3½-1½.

De la Beche A were in action again during the week just ended; this time against University B. Unfortunately for De la Beche their somewhat under strength team could not compete on the bottom boards and in spite of winning on the top two they lost, 3-2.

Division 3 was the busiest of all this week with four matches. First up was the inter club match on Wednesday between Upper Killay Hawks and Harriers. A board 3 default by the Harriers kept the Hawks score looking slightly respectable but it was still a comfortable 3½-1½ win for the Harriers.

Next up was the top of the table clash on Thursday between De la Beche B, at home, and BF Brunel. A top board win for De la Beche was not enough to cancel out the two wins and two draws that favoured the Brunel team and allowed them to go home the winners by 3-2. Brunel are now 6 points clear at the top of the division although second placed De la Beche B have a match in hand.

On the Friday Morriston F and Morriston E met at Glais in the second of their inter club face offs. Their previous encounter went the way of the E team with a 4-1 victory and if they thought they were going to have a repeat performance they were sorely disappointed. Draws on the top two boards saved the E team's blushes but by the end of the match it was a total reverse of fortunes with Morriston F this time emerging as the victors 4-1. This result boosts Morriston F up two places in the table to leapfrog both De la Beche C and UK Hawks who both slip down a spot.

Also on the Friday CN Tribunes travelled to the outskirts of Llanelli and took on League newcomers St Michael’s School. In a match that did not see any draws they were separated by just the 1 point with the visitors going home with the spoils; 3-2 in favour of the Tribunes.
