Castell Nedd Christmas Party

There was Christmas cheer all round as kids spent the evening celebrating at Castell Nedd Chess Club. Tucking into party food whilst pulling crackers, the juniors played for prizes, newcomers and experienced alike.

The evening was made up of a friendly anyone plays anyone competition where points meant prizes, even if you lost all five games! It was fantastic to see that everyone picked up at least a draw and shows that there is potential in everyone. As well as dips in the stocking, a number reached ten points to walk away with Galaxy whilst the two stars of the night, William and Tomos Francis, managed to make it to the top prizes and trophies.

Children of all ages took part, with the oldest being fifteen and the youngest being six, the later outplaying her brother on a giant chess set to get her win. Definitely an up-and-coming chess genius.

At the end of the night, Santa had evidently brought presents as they all walked away with their own set and a set of chocolates. Hopefully, they preferred the former!

Thank you to National Lottery for their funding, the schools who put out the word and got their pupils involved, the parents who brought their kids along, and the helpers who spread out the workload. A very successful and enjoyable night.
