Divisions titles all settled
Subject to confirmation by the Divisional Controllers the top positions in all three Divisions are now settled.
Congratulations go to White Knights A who won the crucial match against Nidum A 3-2. They are now 3 points ahead of Nidum A so assuming that they turn up for their final match against Morriston A it is guaranteed that they will lift the Dr Hanson Trophy for the second time. They last won it in season 2009-10 and had been threatening to repeat the feat every year since.
In Division 2 the week started with Morriston B defeating CN Emperors 3-2 to bring them level with BF Brunel on match points but inferior on game points. Brunel had to win against Woodman A later in the week to be certain of the Division 2 title and this they did with a 1.5-3.5 score line. Brunel will now take home the Stan Cole Trophy, the first time a Briton Ferry team has done so. The other match played was between UK Merlins and White Knights D. Surprisingly the 3.5-1.5 win for Merlins, leaves them still second from the bottom and did not affect the table.
Division 3 was settled in favour of Morriston C a few weeks ago and the remaining battle is for second place. Ferrymen drew with UK Harriers to leave them 1 point behind Morriston D; both teams have one match still to play so it is going down to the wire. The other match played was an in-house tie between Eagles and Hawks. Eagles won 3.5-1.5 and there was a double default on bottom board. There is little doubt that defaults will be a major topic of discussion at this year's AGM.
In the Under 1800 KO competition for the R.E. Jones Trophy, CN Emperors, severely outgraded on 3 out of the 4 boards, pulled off a remarkable 3-1 victory to leave their Morriston opponents shell shocked and wondering what had hit them. Emperors now go forward to play either White Knights or Port Talbot in the final.
