Hero of the hour was veteran Dennis Thomas. Stepping in at the last minute he showed his tremendous tenacity to cling on to draw in spite of a two pawn deficit. My own game crumbled under time pressure but Hywel with pawns at a4, b4, c4 and d4 was only going to play one way and broke through to tie the match. The final result could have gone either way with Board 4 locked in an exciting struggle, but Andrew Smith managed to hang on despite being a pawn down and facing mating threats.
