KO Cup Competitions

In the KO Cup competitions the only remaining semi-final was played on the 11th May. It was in the Under 1800 section for the Richard E Jones Trophy and it was between White Knights B and Briton Ferry Nidum B. Briton Ferry got off to a bad start by defaulting their top board and although they won two out of the remaining three games to level the score they were undone after bottom board elimination. White Knights B now go forward into the final.

The finals of all three sections are scheduled for the 23rd May at the Morriston Chess Club and are as follows:

Open Competition for the Stanley Fortt Memorial Cup

Morriston A v White Knights A

Under 1800 Competition for the Richard E Jones Trophy

Morriston B v White Knights B

Under 1400 Competition for the A.D. Nicholson Shield

Briton Ferry Nidum D v White Knights C

The fifth and last round of the Individual West Wales Closed Championship (E.J. Clarke) takes place next Monday 16th May. June Evans the organiser has published the draw (see below) and it can be seen that last year’s winner Richard Cleveland only needs half a point to retain the title. A number of other players, however, are just 1 point behind and if Richard loses then allocating the trophy could be a bit of a problem!
