A lively well attended AGM saw some new faces join the committee, a few rule changes and a couple of decisions that will affect most of the lower ranked teams (full details in the AGM minutes on the Documents page).

Jason Garcia joins the committee as Fixtures Secretary, a new committee post that requires more than a bit of juggling capacity. We wish him well.

Hywel Griffiths has replaced Ian Eustis as Junior Organiser and delegate to the WCU Junior Committee. Between them Hywel and Ian are in the throes of resurrecting the Minor League as a Junior League and involving some of our local schools. Hopefully the average age of our members might actually drop!

With two exceptions the rule changes are unlikely to affect most players. The first exception is that we now have a universal time control across all three divisions - thirty moves in an hour followed by a 30 minute quickplay finish. Division 1 has been using this time control for a couple of years and it has now been introduced into the other divisions. The other rule change that will be noticeable is that no nominated player is allowed to play down a team. This could affect clubs struggling to find players for a lower ranked team but will perhaps give all teams a more individual identity.

The committee were instructed at the AGM to ensure that all teams had at least 18 fixtures during the season. A follow up committee meeting decided that the 24 teams in the League would be divided into 3 divisions, each containing 8 teams and that these teams would play each other 3 times. Twenty-one fixtures each so 252 in total and a busy time ahead for our grading officer!
