Morriston Teams win both First & Second Divisions
Subject to confirmation by the Divisional Controllers the top positions in both Divisions are now settled.
Congratulations go to Morriston A who won the crucial match against White Knights A 1½-3½. They are now 3 points ahead of White Knights A so assuming that they turn up for their final match against Briton Ferry Brunel it is guaranteed that they will lift the Dr Hanson Trophy for the first time in their 30 year history. It is also the first time in 22 years that a name other than Nidum or White Knights will appear on the Dr Hanson Trophy! White Knights A will finish second in Division 1 even though they have one match to play against Nidum. Third place is still up for grabs and is between White Knights B and Nidum who face off against each other next Tuesday 14th April.
The only other match played in Division 1 was between CN Emperors and White Knights C and by all accounts it was a tough one. Unfortunately the Knights board 2 went to the wrong venue and the resulting one point start was enough to help Emperors to a 3-2 win and maintain a 3 point lead in the fight for fifth place.
In Division 2 UK Merlins, suffering from a run of four losses, played host to CN Tribunes. Wins on the bottom 3 boards gave the victory 4-1 to Merlins who now move back up into third spot just ahead of White Knights D. On the same night UK Harriers played Woodman A who had not lost a match since the middle of November and were now playing their last match of the season. No surprise, therefore, that the match went in favour of Woodman ½-4½, a result that moved them back into top spot in the division. It was not to last, however, and Morriston C away to White Knights E the following evening only needed a draw to take the title. Their 1-4 win was more than enough and congratulations now go to Morriston C who will take home the Stan Cole Trophy. They have 1 match still to play against UK Merlins and although the result may not matter to Morriston the result could be influential in determining who finishes third. Woodman A finish a comfortable second.
