Netsima Neath & West Wales Chess Tournament
The Netsima Neath & West Wales chess tournament, run by Castell Nedd Chess Club, took place on Tuesday, May 14th, with a battle between twenty-three youngsters from Swansea and Neath. An evening of chess for the under-11s saw a major battle between several players, but Tom Farley and Catrin Daniels took joint place after they knocked a few points off the other favourites. Tom's win also helped Waunceirch's primary take the Neath school's trophy.
In the under-nine section, St. Michael's had sent out their best player, Jack Cummins, but Joel Cheung outfoxed him from Oakleigh, who managed to checkmate his opponent in a last-round duel that played for the title.
Tracey Farley, Tom's mother, commented: "Tom was very happy with his joint win with Catrin but was even happier that he, Harri and Owain retained the school cup for Waunceirch Primary, a little legacy as they move on to Dwr-y-Felin in September."
