Nidum Gain Ground on White Knights A
In Division 1 Nidum continue to gain ground on leaders White Knights A. A 4-1 win for the Neath side, away to White Knights C, has taken them to one point behind White Knights A and with a match in hand. Neither team can now afford to drop any points and there is a possibility that it may all come down to the final match of the season when they go head to head.
De la Beche A continued their resurgence when they played host to Morriston Benko. De la Beche defaulted the bottom two boards but won the top three. The 3-2 victory takes the De la Beche team further away from relegation as they are now two points above Morriston B and five points above Emperors.
There were a couple of surprise results in Division 2. Third placed Giants travelled to Llanelli with a weaker than normal side not expecting great things from their encounter with second placed White Knights D. There were no draws in the match where the Knights won on boards 2 and 3 while the Giants won on board 1 and surprising even themselves won on boards 4 and 5. The Knights and Giants are now equal second with their match and game points exactly the same.
The next surprise occurred in the match between second from bottom of the table De la Beche C and top placed Morriston Dutch. The Morriston team were not as strong as they had been in a few matches but started a point ahead due to a default by De la Beche. However, they could only add one more thanks to a win by Joel Chung over Neil Stuart while De la Beche took the other three. The 3-2 win for De la Beche C gives them a 3 point buffer over Morriston English and at the same time makes the situation at the top of the table even tighter. Only three points separate the top five teams with the potential for this to drop to 1 point if both De la Beche B and Morriston Catalan win the matches that they have in hand. It could not be closer and almost impossible to know which team to put your money on.
There were no matches in Division 3.
