In Division 1 the White Knights club showed that even their B team is a match for all the others in the division when they played host to last year’s runners up Nidum. Two wins apiece plus a board 3 draw gave both teams a share of the spoils but more importantly put a minor dent in Nidum’s likely title challenge.

It was a similar result in the match between the 2 teams that were last season’s 1 & 2 in division 2. CN Emperors were at home to Morriston B and with draws on 3 of the boards plus a win each both teams got off the mark with a point each.

The third match in this division featured Nidum’s second team the All Blacks away to White Knights C in what turned out to be the first whitewash of the season. 5-0 to the Knights.

Just the two matches in Division 2, the first of which was a surprise win for BF Brunel away to White Knights D. Brunel recovered from their loss the previous week to take home the spoils thanks to an impressive 4-1 score line. The second match was between De la Beche A and Morriston C. After their ignominious loss to their D team Morriston C fielded a somewhat stronger team against De la Beche. Although not at full strength De la Beche were a match for them and yet again the teams shared the points.

One match only in Division 3 and that was between UK Harriers and De la Beche C. The 3½-1½ win for the Harriers takes them to the top of the division.

One piece of news that affects Divisions 1 & 2 is that the University has apparently withdrawn both its teams from the League. With the first of their matches due to take place on the 10th October there is still time for this decision to be reversed but as things stand it looks like Division 1 will be down to 9 teams and Division 2 down to 7 teams.

A final reminder that if you have not already sent off your entry to the West Wales Weekend Congress there is still time to do so. It is taking place over the weekend of 12th-14th October and the organiser is Les Philpin (newsilure@hotmail.com).
