No Surprises

The top three teams in Division 1 were in action last week in what appeared to be one-sided matches. Morriston A and White Knights A whitewashed De la Beche A and BF’s second team Brunel respectively, while BF Nidum dropped only ½ point against White Knights B, a team that has given them problems in the past. In other matches Morriston C were at home to White Knights C and in spite of being out-graded on every board managed to draw and gain their first point of the season. The CN Emperors and Morriston B match was also a draw, partly due to a tenacious performance by heavily out graded Dennis Thomas. Results proving yet again that a rating advantage is no absolute guarantee of victory.

In Division 2 White Knights D and Morriston D split the points with draws on the top three boards and a win apiece on the bottom two. Morriston E, however, were not so fortunate and went down 5-0 to a full strength UK Merlins team while Upper Killay’s second team who were in action the following night suffered a 3-2 defeat to White Knights E. Surprisingly White Knights E are, after only 4 matches and with 6 points, almost halfway towards matching last season’s total of 13. The final match of the week saw BF Giants win 0.5-4.5 away to De la Beche B. All in all a miserable week for the teams from Sketty while Briton Ferry must already be thinking that the Divisional title is there for the taking.
