KO Cup

In the Under 1400 KO Cup section (A.D. Nicholson Shield) the semi-final between St Michael’s School and De La Beche C has been played. Although not doing too well in the League St Michael’s surprised the De la Beche team by holding them to a draw. Not only that but after the bottom board was eliminated in accordance with procedure the St Michael’s team were declared the winners. They now go into the final where they will meet either De la Beche D or Morriston E. League

Two matches in Division 1. Morriston A were away to White Knights B and although they lost on the top board they made up for it on the others. 3½-1½ to the Morriston team. White Knights C did not fare any better than their club mates when they played third placed Nidum. They managed to avoid being totally overwhelmed by drawing on boards 3 and 5 but Nidum were probably pretty content to win 4-1.

Neither result affects the standings and with BF All Blacks defaulting their forthcoming match against White Knights A it means that the Knights head the table 4 points ahead of Morriston A with just 3 matches to play.

Three matches in Division 2. Morriston C virtually assured themselves of a second place finish by defeating Merlins 4-1. They are now just 5 points behind De la Beche A but barring a minor miracle they do not have much chance of catching them.

White Knights D and Morriston D shared the points in their encounter and both teams seem solidly cemented in the middle of the table.

The third match was a bottom of the table clash between BF Brunel and De la Beche University. A hard fought match that eventually ended in favour of the De la Beche team 3-2. It brings them level with Brunel, but with 3 matches in hand. It is not looking good for the Briton Ferry team who seem destined for relegation.

Two matches in Division 2. Tribunes travelled to Sketty where they played De la Beche C and went home the winners. De la Beche managed to hold them on the top 3 boards but wins for the Tribunes on the bottom 2 gave them the win 3½-1½. The other match between Morriston G and St Michael’s School ended in a draw.
