Status Quo Maintained 2018
Seven matches in total during the week just gone with no real surprises.
In Division 1 BF All Blacks were back to losing ways when they faced White Knights C at Llanelli. Wins on the top four boards for the Knights gave them a comfortable victory with only a surprise board 5 win for the All Blacks stopping the whitewash (4-1 to White Knights C).
The other game in Division 1 was between BF Nidum and University A. The last time they met Nidum overcame them on all 5 boards but it was not quite all one way traffic this time round. The University managed a win on top board and a draw on board 4 but Nidum were no doubt happy with the 3½-1½ victory.
The League table is largely unaffected by these two results with the exception that White Knights C have now jumped above Morriston A. This week will see the Executive Committee discuss Morriston’s complaint regarding a match that they did not turn up for and were deemed to have defaulted and which has resulted in a net loss of 3 points. Morriston are claiming that the match should be rearranged as they had organisational problems at the time.
The first match in Division 2 was an interclub affair between Morriston C and Morriston B. The comparative strengths of the two teams suggested that the B team were determined to come out on top and so it proved. A decisive 5-0 win for Morriston B; a win that keeps them firmly in contention for the Division title.
The other match in the Division was between Division leaders CN Emperors and third placed White Knights D. Two wins each and a draw meant that the spoils were shared with both teams having to be content with a match point each. Although there were no position changes in the table this result favoured Morriston B who are now just 1 point below the Emperors but have two matches in hand. One of these matches is against Morriston D tomorrow (Monday 22nd January), a match that the B team should win and which should see them go top.
There were three matches in Division 3. On Tuesday Morriston F travelled to Tonna and took on CN Tribunes. A top board win for Morriston F and a draw on board 2 did not stop Tribunes winning 3½-1½ thanks to three bottom board wins. The result boosts Tribunes above UK Harriers although they have played one more match. The interclub match between De la Beche C and B went, unexpectedly, in favour of the B team 5-0. The result keeps De la Beche B cemented in second spot 2 points ahead of the Tribunes. The final match saw leaders BF Brunel play host to Morriston E and thanks to wins on the bottom boards succeed in taking the match 3½-1½. With nine wins from nine matches Brunel are now 6 points ahead of De la Beche B who, however, have a match in hand.
