The Christmas Break Begins
As we go into the Christmas break White Knights A continue to lead the field in Division 1. A slight hiccup that spoiled their 100% record, however, when Wednesday night’s encounter with Nidum saw the Neath team go home with a draw. It was presumably a hard fought battle with three draws and a win on board 3 for Nidum counterbalanced with a win on board 4 for the Knights. The Knights remain 5 points clear of Nidum and at this stage of the competition look unstoppable.
In Division 2 Emperors had a very comfortable 4-1 victory over Morriston D with only a surprise win from John Ward, over a much higher graded opponent, stopping the whitewash. The result boosts the Emperors to the top of the table ahead of Morriston B. The Morriston team have two matches in hand but are now in the position of having to play catch up.
The other match in Division 2 was between Merlins and University B. The 1½-3½ result in favour of the University keeps the University team in the middle of the table but with a considerable number of matches in hand. Merlins, however, continue to flounder with just 4 points from 8 matches and only the Morriston C and D teams are below them in the table.
The two Division 3 matches scheduled for this week were both postponed. There have been an usual number of postponements this season and there are currently 10 matches still to be re-scheduled. Any increase in this number is likely to lead to chaos at the end of the season and cause the Executive some concern.
The next League match is on the 4th January 2018 so until then a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to one and all.
