The League reaches its Finale.
The League competition has now been completed.
In Division 1 White Knights A ended their impressive league season in style by beating Morriston B 4-1 to finish top of the division on maximum points. They have not lost or drawn a match all season, a feat that was last achieved in Division 1 in 2010-11 and by the very same team. Two other Division 1 matches were played last week with Nidum beating a less than full strength Morriston A team 4-1 while Castell-Nedd Emperors defied the odds and notched up an excellent 3-2 win against White Knights B.
In Division 2 there was a surprise result when top of the table De la Beche A crumbled to their one and only defeat of the season against White Knights D. And what a defeat it was with the Knights winning 5-0. Admittedly De la Beche were without their two strongest players and were unable to boost the line up as their University team were playing on the same night. The University team were up against BF Brunel who turned up two players short and were then put to the sword. 4½-½ to the University. The other Briton Ferry team, Giants, did not fare much better. They were also two players short when they hosted Morriston C on the same night so no surprise that they also lost - 3½-1½ to Morriston. Morriston C should then have finished their season with a rearranged match against White Knights D but opted to default.
Two matches in Division 3, both involving UK Harriers. Their first match was against Tribunes with Harriers winning 3½-1½. The result moved them up above De la Beche C and into fourth place. Their second match was against second placed Morriston E and a win would have seen them leapfrog Morriston F into third. It was not to be, however, and they went down 3½-1½. The Morriston team were helped by a Harriers default on board 2 and indeed if it were not for the Harriers accumulating defaults and having 2 points deducted they would have finished the season in third place.
All that now remains is the final round of the individual championship (E.J. Clarke Trophy) on Wednesday 8th May and the remaining matches of the KO Cup sections.
