The Summer break is over and the League got back into action this week although most of the matches played were inter-club tussles with predictable results.

In Division 1 Morriston B played host to their A team. Morriston A were without both Carl Strugnell who was on International duty (and doing well) and Richard Cleveland. In the event, however, the presence of new recruits Juraj Sokolsky, rated 1914, and Mike Burrows rated 1850 meant that the A team had a comfortable 4½-½ win.

The other Division 1 inter-club match was between White Knights B and A teams. The A team were without their top three players and this in turn reduced the B team’s strength. The 5-0 win for the A team was, however, no real surprise.

The only Division 1 match that was not inter-club was between Nidum and Castell Nedd Emperors. A bottom board default by Emperors helped Nidum to a 3½-1½ win. The match did include a spot of giant killing, however, with Michael Beck for Emperors making light of a 400+ grading point difference to defeat Chris Sims.

The one match played in Division 2 was the one inter-club encounter that occurs in this division - between Briton Ferry Giants and Bluebells. With Giants out graded on every board there was, yet again, an unsurprising result with Bluebell winning 4½-½. The match saw the welcome return to the League of Nidum’s Dennis Jones.

In Division 3 Morriston D were at home to Tribunes while UK Hawks came up against compatriots the Harriers. Tribunes fielded three new faces in their team ( Louis Ba Thein {1514}, Daniel Jenkins {1350} and Byron Jones {950}) and won on the top three boards with Morriston’s bottom board getting the consolation point:- 1½-3½ to Tribunes. Hawks found themselves up against an almost full strength Harriers team with, yet again, the inevitable consequence. A bottom board default from Harriers made the result less than a whitewash:- 4-1 to Harriers.

Each club’s list of nominated players is now available by going to the documents page. Under the revised rule introduced at the last AGM clubs have four weeks from the date of their first match to amend their list if they so wish.
