Three weeks into the season and the first round of inter-club matches are over. As expected the three most likely title contenders in Division 1, Morriston A, White Knights A and Nidum made short work of their compatriots and now face the serious work of overcoming the rest of the League. After whitewashing De la Beche A the previous week Nidum unexpectedly faltered by conceding a draw to Castell Nedd Emperors, last season’s 6th place finishers. Every Castell Nedd player was out graded but the outstanding result was a win by Anthony Beck (1452) over the unfortunate Keith Thompson (1900). There must be quite a few of us wondering how he did it !

Nidum and Emperors share top with 5 points from a possible 6 with Morriston A and White Knights A hot on their heels with 4 points from a possible 4.

De la Beche A’s misery continued with a 4½-½ loss to White Knights B but they stay above Morriston C thanks to an extra ½ game point.

In Division 2 the newly merged Briton Ferry and Nidum club is already making its mark. Giants and Bluebell lead the fray with White Knights E a surprise third. At the bottom of the table De la Beche B moved above Morriston D and UK Hawks thanks to an overwhelming win over Morriston E. This is already looking like a difficult division to predict.
