The three Division 1 title contenders should all have been in action last week but leaders Morriston A called off citing transport problems. The opportunity to leapfrog them in the table was duly taken advantage of by BF Nidum when they defeated Morriston’s B team 1½-3½, helped in part by Morriston defaulting board 3. They are now 1 point ahead of Morriston A who have a game in hand. The first elimination round, if it can be called that, comes in the next few days when Nidum and Morriston meet for the first time this season. In the second match played White Knights A came close to overhauling Morriston A when they defeated CN Emperors 3½-1½. It brought them level on match points but an elusive ½ game point keeps them third. The final match this week saw BF Brunel pick up their first points of the season by comprehensively beating Morriston C, 4-1.

The Morriston teams had better results in the second division when, on the Monday, the D team defeated UK Harriers 3-2 and on Tuesday the E team, fielding 3 players from the previous night’s D team, beat CN Tribunes 2-3. Meanwhile, BF Bluebell, recovering from their previous week’s defeat to Merlins, saw off division leaders White Knights E 4-1. Merlins in turn defeated De la Beche B by the narrowest of margins 3-2 to stay in the race. At the bottom of the table UK Hawks' troubles continued with a 5-0 defeat at home to White Knights D. White Knights E continue to head the table with 10 points but are slowly being caught by the pack behind.

One good sign is that so far this season there has not been a single defaulted game in Division 2 ! Indeed the only teams to have defaulted are from the Morriston club with their B and C teams in Division 1 dropping two games each.
