The most significant news of the week is that the University B team has been re-introduced into Division 2 under the wing of the De la Beche club. In practice this means that De la Beche now have 4 teams in the league and it is likely that the players who could have played for the University B team will now find themselves able to play for any of the De la Beche teams providing the nomination rules are not infringed. The B and C teams retain their original identity in Division 3. All 4 of the De la Beche teams will be playing their home matches at the De la Beche club and travelling to away matches. De la Beche meet on a Thursday which means that the original home fixtures for the University team have had to be moved. In addition 3 missed matches have had to be re-scheduled.

League

Two matches in division 1 and going by the scores both were fairly close. The less than full strength Morriston A took on a fairly strong Morriston B in their first interclub encounter and the A team only just managed the win 3-2. It looks as if the Morriston club were more interested in a balanced match than allowing the A team to accumulate game points !

In the second match BF All Blacks were at home to a White Knights C team that fielded all their top players. The 3-2 win in favour of the Knights moved them up into 3rd place above the All Blacks on game points but with a couple of matches in hand.

The two matches played in Division 2 both involved Briton Ferry teams. On the Wednesday BF Giants journeyed to Upper Killay to take on the Merlins. The Giants managed to hold off their opponents on the top 3 boards and with a win apiece on the bottom two the match ended in a draw. The following night BF Brunel were at home to Morriston C. Wins on boards 1,2 and 4 plus a draw on board 3 gave Morriston the victory 3½-1½ and only a win by Jonathan Davies board 5 made the loss look a bit less dramatic. This division continues to be hard fought with 5 of the 13 matches so far played having ended in draws. It will be interesting to see if the arrival of De la Beche University changes this.

The only match in Division 3 was between De la Beche C at home to Upper Killay Harriers. The Harriers appear to be having problems fielding a full team when playing away from home and yet again turned up a player short. It did not, however, make much difference to the final score and for the second week in a row they succumbed to a De la Beche team. This time 5-0. In addition by turning up a player short they increased their default total to 4 and take a 1 point penalty point deduction.
