With just 1 round to go it is now clear that there will be an outright winner this year. The final tussle for the trophy will be between Moss McCarthy and Mark Thomas, with Moss needing just a draw and Mark needing to win.

Round 5 is scheduled to take place at the White Knights Chess Club on Wednesday 31st May 2023.

Rd4 Another hard fought round with all 11 games decisive, the higher rated players eventually coming through in most of the games. The exception was James Evans (est 1100), in his first tournament beating Neil Stuart (1588). Adam Musson was also fortunate not to lose to Chris Daniel. The top two boards both involved the white players getting into terrible time trouble. On Bd2 Duncan Williams was a clear pawn up against Mark Thomas, only to fall for a cheapo, losing his queen for a rook. On top board, Andrew Gibbons lost on time to Moss McCarthy.

The draw for the final round. Note that a number of players have asked that their match be delayed so the mid table rankings will not be available on the night.

Neil Stuart has withdrawn from the tournament so we are back to an odd number of players, the consequence of which is that Paul Bevan gets a 1 point bye.
