It is just a few weeks into the season but already it is looking as if White Knights A are going to hold onto the title they won in convincing style last season. They had previously defeated Morriston A and Emperors and in the week just gone it was the turn of Nidum to fall under the knife. For Nidum a win on board 4 and a draw on board 3 kept the score looking respectable at 3½-1½ but in favour of the Knights. With only 3 matches played they are already 3 points ahead.

It was not all bad news for the Nidum club, however, as their All Blacks team pulled out all the stops and defeated Emperors 3½-1½ to gave themselves their first win of the season. The other 1st division match played was an interclub affair between White Knights C & B with the B team just scrapping through 3-2; a win that moved them up into 3rd place.

In division 2 draws were the order of the week. Merlins travelled to Llanelli where White Knights D dominated the top 2 boards while the Upper Killay team won the bottom 2. The middle board they shared. It was even closer when De la Beche A visited Briton Ferry to play Brunel. A blunder on board 1 gave De la Beche an easy win while a hard fought grind on board 2 went to Brunel. The other 3 boards were drawn. This division currently looks like being very evenly balanced. So far 8 matches have been played and 4 of them have been draws.

Just the 1 match in Division 3 with St Michael’s visiting Sketty to play De la Beche C. Unfortunately only 4 boards were played and although St Michael’s won 2 of them they had turned up a player short and this was enough to give the De la Beche team the 3-2 victory.
