The three scheduled matches in Division 1 all went ahead this week. In the Morriston A v Nidum encounter, rearranged from the 4th December, the teams turned out to be fairly evenly matched with 3 draws and one win apiece. With both teams walking away with 1 match point it allowed White Knights A the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the division. This they did in convincing style by overwhelming their C team club mates 4½-½ and giving themselves an 8 point buffer at the top, although second placed Nidum have a match in hand. The Knights have just 4 matches left to play and need only 3 points to be guaranteed of the title. Even less if Nidum do not win in their next few matches. In the one other match played the University A team had a 3½-1½ win over Briton Ferry All Blacks. This moved the University into 4th place and added to the All Blacks’ woes as they continue to prop up the rest of the division.

In Division 2, third placed White Knights D were away to Upper Killay Merlins where a draw on the top board coupled with two wins each on the other boards resulted in the teams sharing the spoils. The single point was enough to move the Knights into second place and help Merlins stay away from the relegation zone. Morriston B, however, moved further ahead of the chasing pack with a 5-0 whitewash of University B who nevertheless continue to remain firmly entrenched in the top half of the table.

Adverse weather conditions and a shortage of available players resulted in no Division 3 matches being played this week. De la Beche C and UK Harriers both gave advance notice of their intention to default against Tribunes and Brunel respectively due to player unavailability. They both lose their matches 5-0 and accumulate default points. The extra default points moves Harriers from third place down to fifth and results in De la Beche C having a minus points tally at the bottom of the table. The match between De la Beche B and Hawks was postponed due to the arrival of snow and wind as also was the match between Morriston F and St Michael’s School. This is the second time this match has been postponed thanks to the weather.

There are now six league matches waiting to be rearranged and coupled with cup matches it is going to be difficult for some clubs to fit them in before the season ends on the 30th April.

Finally the KO Cup Finals night has been moved from Monday 14th May to Monday 21st May. This is because the Morriston Community Centre is not available on the 14th.
