White Knights B Suffer Shock Whitewash

With the West Wales Championship taking place this week there was, once again, a curtailed League program.

On the Wednesday White Knights B travelled to the University to play a "home" match against University A and went back to Llanelli probably wondering what had hit them. It is not unusual for White Knights B to be whitewashed by their own A team but can anyone remember when any other team did that to them? The 5-0 win for the University lifts them into 5th place above White Knights B who are uncharacteristically sitting below their own C team. With matches in hand the University could soon be challenging Morriston A for third place.

In Division 2, on the same night that their B team was playing, White Knights D hosted Briton Ferry Giants. Theoretically Giants should have just edged the victory but theory and practice often disagree. Two wins and two draws for the Knights gave them the win 3-2, a result that keeps them securely in third place a mere one point behind joint leaders Morriston B and Emperors.

Also in Division 2 De la Beche A took on Morriston C at Sketty. This time theory and practice did agree and De la Beche having a stronger team made it look easy with a 4-1 victory (three wins and two draws). Morriston C continue to prop up the table while De la Beche on this form could easily prove a threat to the top three teams.

There were just two matches in Division 3 with both featuring Briton Ferry Brunel. The first was a match rearranged from earlier in the month when Upper Killay Hawks begged off, presumably due to difficulties arranging a team. The rearranged date gave them no respite, however, and they turned up two players short for their match against Brunel. The remaining three games were hard fought but by the end of the evening Brunel emerged the winners 5-0. The following evening Brunel travelled to Glais for their match against Morriston F looking to maintain their 100% record. Inevitably the results went the way of the much stronger team and only a draw between Eleanor Collins and Roger Jenkins stopped the Morriston team from being totally annihilated. A 4½-½ win for Brunel who now have some breathing space ahead of second placed De la Beche B.
