With the League drawing to a close this month attention is now shifting to the KO Cup competitions. Team captains are currently allocating suitable dates with the Under 1800 competition for the Richard E Jones Trophy proving particularly problematic. The quarter final between CN Senators and White Knights B has still to be arranged while the result of the Morriston B v UK Merlins match is up in the air awaiting the result of an arbitration. BF Nidum’s B & C teams are both in this section and although both have progressed to the semi-finals they will not know their opponents until the results of these quarter finals are available. It could be a bit of a rush to get the semis played before the final on the 23rd May.

In contrast the quarter finals in the Under 1400 section for the A.D. Nicholson Shield have all been played and this week the first semi-final took place. White Knights C were at home to Morriston C and in spite of the teams being fairly evenly matched they overwhelmed their visitors. The 4-0 victory takes White Knights into the final where they play the victors of De la Beche v BF Nidum D. This match is scheduled for Thursday 28th April at Briton Ferry’s Graig House meeting place. De la Beche are, unfortunately, having problems finding a permanent venue and may want to complete their remaining fixtures by playing them all away.

The Open section for the Stan Fortt Memorial Cup only had 4 entries and with White Knights and Morriston winning their respective semi-finals earlier in the year it is the only section where the finalists are already known.

League matches resume this week with the Division 2 title almost decided. A win for Bluebell against Morriston D will mean that they are almost certain to take possession of the Stan Cole Trophy. If they lose or draw a win for Giants against Merlins keeps Giants in the race. In Division 1 the title will be settled on the 13th April when White Knights A play Morriston B in a rearranged match. Last time out White Knights had a narrow 3-2 victory and although the Knights only need a draw to take the title Morriston are unlikely to roll over without a fight.
