Statement

Accessibility

We want every league member — and every prospective one — to be able to use this site.

This website is run by the West Wales Chess League, a volunteer organisation. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA and have designed the site with that in mind.

What we've done

  • Text and background colours are chosen for contrast, in both the light and dark themes.
  • The site can be navigated by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator throughout.
  • Pages use semantic headings, landmarks and labels for assistive technology.
  • League tables and fixture lists work on small screens and can be printed cleanly.
  • Animations are disabled for visitors whose devices ask for reduced motion.
  • Text resizes without breaking layouts.

Known limitations

  • The club venue map is an embedded Google map, which has limited keyboard and screen-reader support. The same venue information is provided as text on each club's page.
  • Some older documents in the library (PDFs and scans of minutes) were produced before accessibility standards and may not be fully readable by screen readers.
  • The interactive chess boards in some articles are third-party components; the moves they show are also described in the surrounding text where possible.

Tell us about a problem

If you find something you can't use — or something this statement gets wrong — please email secretary@westwaleschess.org and we'll do our best to fix it or provide the information in another format.
