West Wales Chess League Rapidplay 2026 – AO Jones Trophy

The West Wales Chess League Rapidplay returns in 2026 with the prestigious AO Jones Trophy, offering a competitive six-round Swiss-system tournament in Swansea.

Event Details

The tournament will take place on: Sunday 31st May 2026 Start time: 10:00am Expected finish: approximately 5:30pm Format: 6-round Swiss Rapidplay

Venue

The event will be held at: Morriston Rugby Club Heol Gwernen, Cwmrhydyceirw, Swansea SA6 6JS The venue is conveniently located around 5 minutes from Junctions 45 & 46 of the M4. Play will take place in the first-floor bar area, with lift access available for disabled players. Free on-site parking is provided. As the venue is fully licensed, refreshments including tea and coffee will be available for purchase at the main bar throughout the day.

Rate of Play

Each player will have: 20 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move

Entry Fee

  • £14 per player
  • Includes a buffet lunch served at approximately 12:45pm

Entry Requirements

All participants must be current members of the Welsh Chess Union. Entries on the day may be accepted only if space permits, so early registration is strongly recommended. Players are not permitted to bring their own food or drinks for consumption on the premises.

Prizes

Prize fund will depend on total entries received:

  • First prize guaranteed minimum: £50
  • Additional prizes may be added depending on participation numbers The AO Jones Trophy will be awarded to the highest-placed registered member of the West Wales Chess League. In the event of a tie, the trophy will be shared.

Buffet Arrangements

A buffet has been arranged for approximately 40 players at £8 per head, coordinated with venue staff. Dietary requirements or allergies should be communicated in advance to the tournament controller.
