Brunel - Division 3 Winners

Division 3 tends to be glossed over in these news reports but it is, nevertheless, fairly competitive with a preponderance of “quite old” players counter balanced by up and coming juniors. This year St Michael’s School joined the League for the first time and there were new teams from Briton Ferry, De la Beche and Morriston. It had been hoped that a team from The Commercial Inn, Killay would also take part but it was not to be.

Early on the tussle for top spot was a three way fight between Brunel, Tribunes and De la Beche B and it was not until well into the season that Brunel started to stride ahead. They finally took the title without losing or drawing a single match, although two of these matches were no shows by the opposition. Interestingly there was not a single match drawn in this division. Brunel’s outstanding player was undoubtedly Carl Halpin who had a plus 95% score having played 11 matches, winning 10 and drawing 1. Brunel also demonstrated their strength at this level by winning the Under 1400 KO competition for the AD Nicholson Shield. With no room on the Shield for names the Shield has been replaced by a Cup.
