Charity Tournament

On Monday 16th December the traditional "Charity Christmas Odds Quickplay" tournament is taking place at the Coopers Arms in Plasmarl (home venue for the Morriston Chess Club). Gather there at 7 pm.

In this tournament the stronger player, by grade, gives up some material before play begins. In each game both players will have 10 minutes on their clocks and there will be 5 or 6 rounds.

There will be an entry fee (£3) and a raffle with all the money collected going to a charity designated by Bob Moore who will also be deciding on the odds and controlling the event (probably assisted by Ian Eustis). We ask each club to please bring along a prize for the raffle but prizes from individuals will also be accepted!

League Status

Three matches in Division 1. Nidum A defeated a strong White Knights B team 4-1; White Knights C had a 5-0 victory over Falcons and Morriston A beat Port Talbot 4.5-0.5. Nidum A go 2 points clear at the top having played an extra match while White Knights C leapfrog Port Talbot. Otherwise no real change.

Four matches in Division 2. A 3-2 win for Brunel over Woodman B; a 3.5-1.5 win for Morriston B over Merlins; a 3-2 win for Emperors over Giants and a win for Woodman A over second place White Knights D. Emperors have played an extra match and are 3 points ahead but only 1 point separates the following three teams so it is all still very close.

Three matches in Division 3. A 4-1 win for Morriston D over Tribunes; a 3-2 win for Hawks over White Knights E and a 2-2 draw between Harriers and Ferrymen. Morriston C still lead by 3 points and have a match in hand so still seem fairly secure.

All three matches in Division 3 suffered from defaults and bring the total across the league to 37 to date, most of them in Division 3.
