With the season in it's last few weeks the Division 1 title is still largely between Morriston A & White Knights A. Morriston have the advantage, having dropped 1 match point - a draw v White Knights B - with White Knights having dropped 2 match points - a loss to Morriston A. Nidum have dropped 6 points so can still win the title if they win all their remaining matches but they also need Morrison to lose to Briton Ferry on the 20th April. The title will be largely decided when Morrison, Nidum and White Knights play each other from March 30th to April 21st.

With Nidum B dropping out of the division the Executive Committee has decided that there will not be relegation from Division 1 this season, certainly a relief to the teams at the bottom who are very closely matched.

The competiveness of the so called "lower teams" against the higher graded teams is something that has been very impressive the last couple of seasons. Briton Ferry started the season off with a fine win against Nidum in one of the biggest upsets for many years. Individual player performances are also very impressive and a summary of the current top 10 wins & draws is below. A number of players feature regularly in the "giant-killing table" and it really doesn't seem to matter whether they are black or white. I must take this opportunity to single out one set of recent results which has been especially impressive. Martyn Griffiths' last two results - a draw v Richard Jones (IM) 2420 followed by a win v Alan Young (2159) - Martyn's current grade is 1825.
