E Teams Triumph

The League got off to an intensive start with nine matches being played this week. In Division 1 all but one of the encounters were inter-club and it was no surprise that these all went the way of the higher ranked team. Morriston A annihilated their B team 5-0 in a very one-sided match; White Knights fielded most of their higher ranked players in their A v B match with the A team only dropping half a point, while the following night BF Nidum whitewashed their new stable mates BF Brunel and avoided a repeat embarrassment of last season’s match when Brunel took home the points against all the odds. In the final Division 1 match De la Beche A were overcome 4½-½ by Castell Nedd Emperors and are no doubt just hoping for some good individual results this season while being resigned to difficult times ahead.

In Division 2 it did not go the way of all the higher ranked teams. The first upset occurred in the White Knights D v White Knights E match where the D team went down 3-2 thanks to some excellent results from the E team’s top four boards. It was only the full point from Tomas Evans on board 5 that allowed the D team score to look respectable. The second upset saw the youngsters of Morriston E defeating their older D team club mates by the same score and send out the message that a higher rating is no guarantee of a win. In the other matches Tribunes emulated their first team’s performance and had no trouble against De la Beche B winning 4½-½; new team BF Bluebell beat club mates BF Giants 4-1. Hawks and Harriers split the spoils at Upper Killay in the only drawn match of the week.
