In Memory of Anne Veale
In Memory of Anne Veale
Anne Veale was another character we will deeply miss. A lecturing in hairdressing, she played for the West Wales Chess League but dedicated much of her time to the game of chess. Anne even represented Wales in the Women’s Olympiad in 1998.
Although she didn’t play much outside of the league, she achieved an impressive win against a 2015 rated player from Switzerland during the Olympiad. In the 1980s, she served as the Ladies’ Delegate to the Welsh Chess Union and dedicated much of her time to junior chess. It must have delighted her that her daughter, Helen, played for the Welsh Faber Cup team in 1983 and 1984.
Such volunteers are few and far between, and it is with great sadness that we see a lady like Anne pass away.
