Merlins Now Top Division 2

The League’s top four teams were all in action last week and since they were not facing each other the results were more or less as expected. This week Morriston A were missing only two of their top players but still needed to tread carefully against a White Knights C team that had defeated BF Nidum the previous week. The overall result, however, went the way of the stronger team and the Knights, out graded on every board did well to pick up two draws. The 4-1 win for Morriston keeps them at the top of Division 1 but White Knights A are only a point behind and have a match in hand. After last week’s defeat at Llanelli, BF Nidum bounced back against Morriston C making it look easy with a 5-0 whitewash while the following night White Knights A slaughtered bottom of the table De la Beche A by the same score. Fourth placed White Knights B, away to BF Brunel, had a bit more of a struggle but nevertheless managed to scrape through 2-3. De la Beche A, Morriston C and BF Brunel continue to prop up the table while the sum total of all these results means that there is no change at the top.

Only three matches in Division 2, the most critical of which was the top of the table clash between BF Bluebell and UK Merlins. As might be expected it was close with Merlins just getting the win courtesy of two wins and two draws. The 2-3 score line in favour of Merlins moves them just 1 point above Bluebell who have the game in hand. BF Giants move up into third spot by virtue of a ½-4½ win away to UK Harriers while White Knights D leapfroged their own E team by beating De la Beche B by the same score. With now only 3 points separating the top 5 teams it looks like this division is also in line to be undecided until the final matches are laid to rest.
