Mid-season Break

Morriston A and Morriston C lead at the Half Way Mark.

With the Christmas break in the offing it was a quiet week for the League. It got off to a sad start with only 7 players plus the controller participating in the Annual Charity Tournament. Not too successful as a fund raising event although a fun night for those taking part. In spite of the stronger players giving up material before the first move they still came out on top with Peter Bevan winning and Richard Cleveland coming second.

There was only one Division 1 match last week between Port Talbot and Morriston B with both teams needing a win to get them clear of the bottom. In the event they drew and both gained a point to bring them level with Brunel. With Brunel, Morriston B and Port Talbot all with just 3 points the bottom of the table is starting to look a bit crowded.

In Division 2 the two top teams were both in action. Morriston C travelled to Upper Killay to take on the Harriers for the second time, having dropped a point the last time they met. Morriston were less generous this time round and went home 1-4 winners. Second placed Upper Killay Merlins travelled to Llanelli to play White Knights E and, helped by a White Knights default, came away the victors ½-4½. Merlins now have the same game point total as Morriston C but are one match point behind them. Both teams have played 9 matches.

As the first half of the season ends Morriston A and Morriston C go into the second half as leaders in Divisions 1 & 2 respectively. There is, however, very little clear water between them and the chasing packs so still a lot to play for.
