For the second week in a row Morriston A traveled to Neath RFC with the intention of boosting their chances of regaining the championship title. This time it was to take on the Briton Ferry Nidum second team, the All Blacks. Although they were held to draws on the top two boards the match was won for Morriston when their bottom three went home victorious. A comfortable looking 4-1 win for Morriston who now face fellow title contenders White Knights A this coming Tuesday. Though listed as a home match for Morriston it will be taking place in Llanelli as the landlord of the Coopers Arms (Morriston’s home venue) is insisting that the premises be vacated by 10 pm. As might be expected it is understood that the Morriston club is now looking for an alternative venue.

White Knights B were scheduled to meet the University last Wednesday but as the University term has yet to start the match has been postponed. The White Knights club decided to use the free date to bring forward their B v C match. This has already been reported on so suffice to say that the result was something of a surprise with the C team taking the spoils.

There were two matches in Division 2 with Giants traveling to Tonna to meet the Emperors and White Knights D traveling to Plasmarl to meet Morriston D. In both cases the results were close and settled in the same way; 3-2 to the Emperors thanks to two wins and two draws, and 3-2 to White Knights D also thanks to two wins and two draws.

In Division 3 Upper Killay Harriers played host to a stronger Brunel team. The 4-1 victory for Brunel was not a surprise but excellent draws for the Harriers on the top two boards kept the score semi-respectable. In the other Division 3 match newcomers Morriston F suffered a 4-1 defeat at the experienced hands of De la Beche B. This looks like being a tough season for Morriston’s youngsters.

The final piece of news is that the team based in The Commercial in Killay have decided not to join the League. Division 3 will continue with 9 teams with each team now playing 16 fixtures rather than 18.
