One lonely match in Division 2 but significant in that Swansea University are now really starting to show their class. The unfortunate victims were Upper Killay Merlins who only avoided total annihilation thanks to draws on boards 2 and 5. The University are now just two points behind leaders Giants but have the advantage of a match in hand and a better game point percentage. Merlins on the other hand have still to win a point and continue to prop up the table.

Two matches in Division 3 and two surprises. In the Morriston inter club match the E team had a surprise 2-3 victory over their supposedly stronger D team. In spite of the defeat Morriston D stay top but are now being challenged by their E team who have the same match points but a match in hand! The other surprise was at Tonna where Hawks managed to draw against Tribunes thanks to a last minute default by the home side. The result gives Hawks their first point of the season.

With only two inter club matches in Division 1 there were no surprises and results were somewhat predictable. Morriston had trouble fielding 10 players in their A v B encounter and decided to put all the pain onto the B team who ended up defaulting their two bottom boards. 5-0 to Morriston A.

White Knights had no such trouble finding 10 players but the result was the same. 5-0 for their A team against the B’s.

Attention this week now shifts to the first clash of the season between Nidum and White Knights A. Both need to win to boost their chances of taking the title while Morriston will probably be hoping they draw and keep the points total within reach.
