The 47th West Wales Week-end Chess Congress is taking place this coming week-end Friday 28th Nov - Sun 30th Nov. It is being held at the Mercure Swansea Hotel, Phoenix Way, Llansamlet, Swansea SA4 9EG and entry forms can be found under the Documents page of this website. The event itself is something of a milestone in that it marks the 25th year in a row that it has been organised by Les Philpin - no mean feat and he deserves our congratulations.

In the League the two top teams in Division 1 were in action and both won their matches 1-4. Three wins and two draws for White Knights A against Port Talbot and, yes, three wins and two draws for Morriston A against Briton Ferry Brunel. The surprise result of the week, however, was a 2-3 win for Castell Nedd Emperors away to White Knights C. As in their previous win over Morriston B the resurgent Emperors were seriously out graded on every board but two wins and two draws saw them, yet again, emerge the victors.

It was a busy week in Division 2. Upper Killay Merlins continued their winning ways by demolishing a luckless Woodman B ½-4½. This was their sixth win in a row and only a draw in their first match of the season spoils their record. However, leaders Morriston C dropped yet another point - this time against White Knights D and they are now in imminent danger of being overtaken by Merlins, who have a match in hand. Their first encounter of the season takes place on the 3rd Dec and it could be crucial.

In the other Division 2 matches Castell Nedd Tribunes emulated the performance of the club's first team by beating a stronger Upper Killay Harriers 3½-1½, while Upper Killay Hawks had their first win of the season with a ½-4½ away victory over a relatively weaker White Knights E. It was not enough, however, to move them off the bottom.
