White Knights A back on Top

Last time they came up against the Emperors the White Knights A team got a bit of a shock and went home with just the 1 point - the only occasion on which they have dropped a point so far this season. This time round the grading point differences in favour of the Knights bordered on astronomical and a neutral observer might have expected White Knights A to have completely annihilated the Emperors. However, stiff resistance from the weaker team ensured this did not happen and although the Knights won 3½-1½ (two wins and three draws) a few of their players were probably unhappy with their individual results. This was the only match in Division 1 and it took White Knights A back into top spot. With Nidum and White Knights A swapping the lead almost on a weekly basis their next head to head encounter at the end of the month could prove significant.

Division 2 was busier with three marches played. Morriston C at home to De La Beche A had a narrow 3-2 win and lifted themselves into the middle of the table. Bluebell at home to White Knights D faltered yet again and had to be content with a draw. Although reasonably secure in second place any improvement will be dependent on whether the University start to drop points. On their present form over the last 8 matches (7 wins and 1 draw) the University are now the firm favourites for promotion. The third match in this division saw Merlins extend their winning streak to three with a 3-2 win over Giants. Nevertheless the relegation battle is still wide open. Only 2 points separate the “bottom” five teams so who knows where this is going to end up.

In Division 3 Tribunes could only draw against UK Harriers and although they remain in third place the dropped point makes catching the leaders a bit more difficult. On the other hand second placed Morriston E made it look easy against De La Beche B with a 4-1 victory and lifted themselves above their club’s D team. There is still all to play for in this division, however.

In the West Wales Closed Championship Peter Bevan unsurprisingly beat Joe Spooner in their rearranged round 2 match. The only game now outstanding is that between Ian Jones and Tony Goodchild.
