White Knights A Beat Nearest Rivals Morriston A
On Wednesday Morriston A made the journey to Llanelli knowing that only a win against White Knights A would keep them in the Division 1 title race. It was not to be, however, and wins on the top three boards for the Knights were more than enough to see off any title hopes that the Morriston team might have been harbouring. The 3½-1½ win for the Llanelli team gives them a 4 point lead at the top and only complacency or a failure to show is likely to stop them retaining the title that they won in convincing style last season.
In Division 2 De la Beche A continue to set the pace, this week with a convincing 4-1 win over Morriston C. Draws from David Toner against Neil Stuart and Les Philpin against Chris Price kept the whitewash at bay. Les seems to be having the season of his life having gained 127 grading points since the season began. Interestingly Bradley Parfitt (121) and Joel Chung (115) both of whom are also from the Morriston club are the next most improved players!
White Knights D played host to the De la Beche University team and for the second match in a row emerged the winners by 3½-1½. The top three boards all drew and the win was thanks to victories on the bottom two boards. The win keeps the Knights in third spot but with a match in hand over second place Merlins.
On Thursday Briton Ferry Giants hosted a Morriston D side that had to default a board when one of their players (Dave Toner) was involved in a traffic accident on the way to the match. However, the Morriston team had Daniel and Joel Chung on side and victories by both coupled with draws on the other two boards saw the Morriston team head home the winners 3-2.
De la Beche B jumped above their third Division compatriots in the C team with a resounding 4-1 win over Morriston E. Morriston defaulted the bottom board but managed a win on top board. De la Beche A are currently riding high on 5 wins from 5 matches and are starting to look unstoppable.
Morriston G achieved their second win of the season when they overcame St Michael’s School 3½-1½. The results boosts them above Morriston F
